WEEK 4: virtual loving

ok...as a group we decided to base our project on virtual communities and how 'cyber love' and how real relationships are/can be formed online, in the virtual world. We set ourselves the task of watching a documentary Wonderland: virtual adultery and cyberspace love BBC 2. In this a ' 37 year-old mother of four in the midst of a passionate affair that is tearing her family apart. She's spending up to 18 hours a day with her lover, and her husband is in despair. But the extraordinary thing about this affair is that Carolyn's lover is man she has never met. Because he's not a human being. He's an avatar (or computer generated figure), who exists only in the virtual world of Second Life. And their relationship exists only in cyberspace'.

This documentary gives a great insight into a virtual 3D world which is more in depth and real than the likes of facebook. Second life is actully a second life were people can buy luxury good and take on any image they please. It's population runs into 3 million, people start forming actual relationships and in some cases second life can become blurred into real life as proved by a couple who got married in reality and virtually.

Instead of looking at this growing world as an outsider and experiencing things second hand I thought it would benefit the group to actually have our very own Avator. so I created Purk Vought, she is not born yet shes just a ID name because it would be unfare for rest of the group...soo watch this space as we create and delve into SECOND LIFE.
